Paul VanValin, Ph.D., LCP
Dr. Paul provides psychological testing for ages 18 months to seniors. He administers assessments for attention and behavior problems, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia and learning disabilities, emotional disorders, normal personality characteristics and styles, competency, cognitive and memory loss, and dementia.
Dr. Paul graduated Summa Cum Laude from Spring Arbor College in Spring Arbor, Michigan in 1977. He had majors in psychology, education, and music. He graduated from Central Michigan University in 1979 with the masters of art in Clinical Psychology. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1982 with a PhD in Counseling Psychology. He won the “Best Dissertation Award.” Dr. Paul had a hospital professionals scholarship from the US Army. He completed his post-doctoral internship at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Dr. Paul completed extensive training in psychological and neuropsychological testing during his training years. He was supervised by a child psychologist for two years while on active duty at the 5th General Hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Germany. Dr. Paul was licensed in Texas to practice clinical psychology in 1982 and in Virginia in 1987.
Dr. Paul and Becky VanValin, LCSW were married in 1977. They have three grown sons that are flourishing. Dr. Paul loves to help people discover their gifts and become the best version of themselves. He founded Eden Counseling Center in 1995, and joined the Genesis team in 2023 when Genesis Counseling acquired Eden Counseling. The firstborn of a pastor and educator, Dr. Paul is part of a five generation heritage of Christian faith and service. Dr. Paul loves an adventure. He co-founded First Fruits Crisis Response to provide crisis intervention training in New York after the 9/11 attacks, and was in New Orleans after Hurricane Trina, and in New Jersey and New York after Superstorm Sandy. He provided counseling and crisis training and marriage workshops in Germany, Turkey and Romania. Dr. Paul wants to help you understand yourself, or your loved one, and develop a plan for personal, educational, and relationship success.
