Dustin Risser, Ph.D., LCP
Dr. Dustin Risser is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, having completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2020 from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. His areas of specialty include issues of anxiety, relational and family of origin issues, trauma, cross-cultural/international issues and spirituality. He also has extensive experience working with young and emerging adults. In addition, he has served as an affiliate instructor at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology.
Dr. Risser also has a Master’s Degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and understands people as an integrated whole of mind, body and spirit and made in the image of God, and the importance of health for each aspect of the person. Having lived in Australia, Hawai’i, the greater Los Angeles area, and growing up in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania have all shaped his worldview, faith, and understanding of the uniqueness of culture and family in shaping a person’s self-concept and expression.
In 2022, Risser’s doctoral dissertation Creativity, Theology and Posttraumatic Growth was published as a manuscript under Pickwick Publishing addressing the importance of recovering the ability to play in facilitating growth after trauma. Some of the ways that he accesses his own ability for play and creative expression include music (indie rock and hip-hop), surfing, and staying in touch with pets (he loves Boston Terriers), and spending time in nature with wildlife.
