At Genesis Counseling Center, our goal is to help the entire family. At times this is accomplished as a family unit and, at times, best accomplished individually. With a staff of over 45 licensed therapists with a variety of backgrounds and specialties, we have a dedicated team ready to meet each person where they are and journey with them.
The teen and adolescent years are a time of change, social stress and uncertainty. It can be a hard time for everyone! When your child experiences emotions or engages in behaviors that interfere with their confidence, happiness and ability to succeed, speaking with a therapist may be beneficial. Often times, connecting with a trusted adult can be a safe space in which to address emotions, feelings and independently work toward change.
Children and adolescents face many transitions. This can be both disorienting and exciting. Issues of self-identity, independence and decision-making play a major role in healthy development. As children and adolescents grow, they are constantly developing the social skills and emotional intelligence necessary to lead healthy, happy lives. As they grow, they will experience changes in their moods and behaviors some of which may be challenging. While each child responds differently to changes in life, some events may impact mental health, and need a little extra guidance, including:
- Parental divorce or separation and blended families
- Change in home life, new sibling, new home, etc.
- Death of loved one
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Poverty or homelessness
- Natural disaster
- Domestic violence
- School changes
- Low academic esteem/confidence
- Relationship difficulties
- Experiencing bullying
- Self-esteem concerns
- Self-Harm
- Feelings of sadness/anger/anxiety
