Hampton Roads Christian Counselor Christine Ferguson Christine Ferguson, LPC

Ms. Christine Ferguson received her Bachelors of Science in Biology and Minor in Psychology from Springfield College as well as her Masers of Education in Psychology with a Concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. She also obtained her Advanced Certificate in Dance Movement Therapy from Columbia College Chicago. Ms. Ferguson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 9 years of experience providing mental health counseling, crisis intervention and management services, and clinical case management services.

Ms. Ferguson has worked with ADHD, Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety, Sensory Integration, Anger Management, Behavioral Modification, Couple’s Counseling and Emotional Regulation. She has experience in working with populations from school age as young as 6 years old to adults. Her passion is in working with women (all ages) particularly with acceptance and self-esteem, anxiety, depression, perfectionism/high expectations. She also has worked successfully with students regarding ADHD with sensory and executive functioning concerns. She has advocated profusely for accommodations for students in classrooms and worked tirelessly with IEP/504 planning.

Ms. Ferguson strongly believes in the power of change starts from the initial contact. A client can expect high professionalism and client centered treatment from the initial phone contact with Genesis. A first appointment is structured as a “Meet and Greet”. A client can expect a full biosocial assessment which includes gathering information on presenting concerns, family history, and family and individual goals. The client and Ms. Ferguson will discuss the treatment expectations and plans for moving forward. This time allows the client and Ms. Ferguson to get to know each other as Ms. Ferguson strongly believes that the foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of successful treatment.

Future sessions a client can expect to always be moving towards change, at their pace of course. Ms. Ferguson draws on her background to treat the whole individual body, mind, and spirit. A client can expect to have dialog in the session. Ms. Ferguson therapeutic approach is eclectic and unique. Often drawing on narratives and stories Ms. Ferguson will challenge a client to identify what path they are choosing to take and to explore choices. Ms. Ferguson often utilizes Solution-Focus, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral Techniques to address where the mind is “stuck”. She will utilized body-based and education of body-mind connection to help the client develop and heal through the body. And most importantly she will help a client explore their faith as a support system and coping for overall well being.

Where ever you are in your walk Ms. Ferguson will “meet you were you are at”. Change is not easy and her role is to walk that path with you. There will be good days and bad, and not one of us is perfect. Therapy is about acceptance, grace, and forgiveness.

In her free time Ms. Ferguson has been actively involved in her church, is a huge nerd and reads all the time, tries to be physically active, and spends time with family and friends. She also works full-time during the academic year at William and Mary (and as such will not see students of the college).
